Electricity

Trash and Recycling

  • Regular trash pickup days are on Tuesday and Friday morning.
  • The trash can should be placed with the wheels and hinge facing towards the street.
  • The trash can should not be moved to the street until dusk the day before trash pickup. Resident are required to remove their trash can and recycle cans off the street by the end of the pickup day (Lake Terrapin HOA Design and Rules Regulation 4.1.37)
  • Trash items too large to fit in the trash can must be taken by the resident to the PWC Landfill.
  • Recycle pickup is on Friday morning.
  • Trash services are contracted to a private company by the Lake Terrapin Association.
  • Yard waste collection is from March 1st until December. Lawn and yard clippings, leaves, and vegetation created during yard maintenance is not to be discarded in the trash can.
    • All vegetation created during yard maintenance must be disposed of in large paper lawn bags that can be purchased at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc. Large plastic bags are not allowed.
    • These paper lawn bags are placed on the street and picked up on Wednesday each week. Visit the Prince William County website for more information.
Prince William County Landfill

Prince William County Landfill

  • The landfill is located at 4.4 miles away at 14811 Dumfries Rd, Manassas, VA 20112. 
  • The Prince William County Landfill and the Compost Facility only accept materials generated by residents and businesses in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park. 
  • The Convenience Center at both facilities are for residents only.
  • All commercial waste must be taken to the landfill for disposal. 
  • Commercial recycling is not accepted at these facilities.

Internet Providers

  • Comcast/Xfinity and Verizon offer internet access to residences in Lake Terrapin neighborhood.
  • Comcast/Xfinity offers traditional cable (copper) internet and television service.
  • Verizon offers fiber optic internet to some but not all residences in the Lake Terrapin neighborhood.

Water and Sewer Service

Transportation Options

  • Lake Terrapin is located 45 minutes south of Washington DC. 
  • Interstate 95 has Toll Road with High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes (3+ people) going northbound traffic in the morning and southbound in the evening.  A vehicle must have an EZPASS to use most of the toll roads in Northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland.
  • OmniRide is the Bus Transit System that services Prince William County and offers a variety of large commuter busses going to the Pentagon and Downtown Washington DC weekdays.  Visit https://omniride.com for the most current bus routes and times.
  • The Virginia Rail Express (VRE) provides commuter rail service from multiple train stations with free parking near Woodbridge. Trains travel northbound in the morning into Washington DC and travel southbound in the afternoons. The last stop for VRE trains travelling into Washington DC is Amtrak’s Union Station.
  • Commuter Lots (with free parking) are located throughout Woodbridge, Dale City, and Dumfries. Slug Lines also form at most of these commuter lots.
  • The nearest Metrorail subway station is Franconia-Springfield with access to the Blue and Yellow Line that go into Downtown Washington DC and connect to the surrounding areas: https://www.wmata.com/service/rail/
  • Amtrak has two stations in the area co-located with VRE Stations:
    • Woodbridge Station (WDB) on the Northeast Regional Line
    • Quantico Station (QAN) on the Northeast Regional and Carolinian Line

Streetlights in Lake Terrapin

The Lake Terrapin neighborhood has a total of 52 streetlights. These lights are along the Prince William County maintained public roads and are also located along the private driveways of the Townhomes. The Lake Terrapin HOA conducts periodic surveys of the streetlights to ensure they are functioning properly. Residents are encouraged to report any issues or outages involving streetlights by emailing [email protected] and be sure to provide the streetlight number (located on the pole) and the closest residential address to the pole.

Snow Removal in Lake Terrapin

Lake Terrapin residents are responsible to clear the snow on their driveway and the sidewalks that are on their property. If residents are out of town and unable to clear their sidewalks, they should coordinate with a neighbor or friend to clear the snow.

The Lake Terrapin HOA contracts for snow removal services to be performed on certain roads for which the HOA has responsibility. The HOA is only responsible to clear snow from common areas, which are areas owned by the HOA and included the following:

  • The Lake Terrapin Clubhouse parking lot and sidewalk.
  • The following streets: Tortoise Place, Gopher Turtle Way, Yellow Turtle Place, Flatback Lane, and Galapagos Place.

All other snow removal and maintenance of all public roads and public sidewalks in the Lake Terrapin neighborhood is the responsibility of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). These roads include: Lake Terrapin Drive, Razorback Place, Box Turtle Court, Archelon Way, Snapper Court, Loggerhead Place, Spotted Turtle Court, Sloop Court, Comus Court, Muddy Creek Court, Diamondback Road, Daybreak Lane, Leopard Tortoise Way, Hawksbill Court, Copper Turtle Place, Leatherback Road, Plastron Court, Painted Turtle Way, Chincoteague Court, Chula Place, Wet Rock Court, Dillwyn Court, and Raft Cove Court.
